Robert Plant helps charity that aids African nomads
Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has secured $60,000 for a Carefree-based charitable donation that aids nomadic people in drought-stricken West Africa.

The singer previously committed proceeds from a four-song CD released by his current band, Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation.

The CD's sales failed to generate the royalties Plant expected so he made other arrangements.

Plant made an appeal to PAR Charitable Trust, a small grant-making organization that agreed to make up the gap needed to build and operate school dormitories for 200 children for three years, said TurtleWill founder Irma Turtle.

The trust will supplement proceeds from the CD sales to build eight dormitories and provide meals, blankets, school uniforms and medicine for students in four locales in Mali.

TurtleWill, which began in the mid-1990s, offers medical treatment, school funding and employment training tribal people in remote regions of Ethiopia, Mali and Niger.

Jimmy Page picks up his OBE medal!
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has been awarded an OBE by the Queen - for his charitable work rather than his musical career.

The rocker said he was overwhelmed to be given the accolade for helping street children in Brazil.

The 61-year-old began a campaign to help disadvantaged youngsters from the favelas in Rio de Janeiro more than 10 years ago.

He was in Brazil's second largest city promoting an album in 1994 when fighting broke out between street gangs.

"At that time in Rio the sun wasn't shining. The army was going into the favelas and I heard about the plight of the street children," Page said after collecting his honour at Buckingham Palace.

He joined forces with UK charity Task Brazil and set up a safe house which has so far supported more than 300 children.

Page added: "The Queen actually said it was very important work and that it was a horrible problem for the street children."

London-born Page is considered one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.

He was a founder member of Led Zeppelin, and before that a member of 1960s band the Yardbirds.

"This is not about my music," he said. "I would never have expected to have an award for my humble efforts."

No Jimmy Page album coming
Well I know it sucks but I'm sure Guitar World meant well by misleading us with their upcoming cover story. But according to sources from Jimmy Page Online the so called album is still in Jimmy's head. It was also stated at JPO that Jimmy does have plans to do an album however nothing is set in stone, patience is a virtue and Jimmy is well worth waiting. That being said you can hear Jimmy on the upcoming Jerry Lee Lewis album on which Jimmy did the solo for Jerry's cover of 'Rock & Roll'.
